President John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson
During the 1960s the idea of a new Deficit Spending Program was introduced. At first President John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson were not entirely convinced that it was the appropriate plan. The council of economic advisers was used to try and convince them that it was the right idea. After advocating this plan the Council began to advocate other economic ideas that were far more conservative.
Social: Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is an extremely significant figure in American history. His involvement in the Civil Rights Movement was crucial for its success and the inspiration that he provided for the entire nation left an ever-lasting mark on society. Without MLK's involvement the movement could have resulted in a drastically different world, one that was still caged by bast and unnecessary hatred. MLK strongly supported peaceful protest which was far more effective than violent protest and significant factor in the outcome of movement.

President John F. Kennedy
President John F. Kennedy was elected during the Civil Rights Movement, and although at first he address it he did deal with other issues and he responded to the Civil Right movement later. President Kennedy dealt with the Cuban missile crisis, an important event that could have caused a nuclear war. During the time of the Freedom Riders President Kennedy began to address the Civil Rights movement and support it. His strong leadership qualities and success in office made President Kennedy an important American icon.
Did these events lead to Progress?
The time of the Civil Rights movement was probably the most important period of progress in American history. During this time the Civil Rights Act, which goes against the recurring theme of bigotry in U.S. history, is passed. This allows significant and much needed change to enter American society. Martin Luther King Jr. and President John F. Kennedy are both important icons for Americans that arose form this time and will forever represent Progress and change.
